Myths about Linen

Nowadays linen is gaining its popularity. Linen, unlike many other fabrics, has many positive characteristics. Linen material becomes softer and more pleasant to the body with each wash, what is more, it absorbs moisture and dries quickly. Bedding sets made of linen also creates coolness in hot weather and keeps warm in cold. In addition, flax has antiseptic effect and the ability not to accumulate dust, which is of great importance for children and allergy sufferers. Nevertheless, there is an opinion that flax is a very rough, expensive and difficult-to-smooth material. But we are here to tell you that these facts are all myths.

Myth #1. Linen products are unreasonably expensive

The fact that linen is more expensive than some other materials, such as cotton or synthetics, is true, and this does not put it in a bad light in any way. It is well known that flax is one of the highest quality materials, which, with proper care, will serve you 15-20 years.

A product made of synthetic fabric is much cheaper than linen. Suppose you bought synthetic bed linen. Look at this kit after 5-7 washes, and you will see how much the quality has deteriorated and the color has faded. Look at the linen bedding set after 25 washings, and you will see that it has not only retained color and quality, but, moreover, has become even softer and more pleasant to the body!

Myth #2. Linen is a very coarse fabric

This is one of the most common misconceptions about linen, but, it is justified. This is due to the fact that some manufacturers are trying to save money on creating linen material, thereby obtaining a low-quality fabric. If you buy products from a reputable manufacturer or store, you can feel what is a real soft flax.

This characteristic of a linen product disappears after washing, and the longer we use a linen tablecloth or bed linen, the nicer and more delicate the fabric becomes. Being 100% organic, light and anti—allergic flax is the best variant. That's why we often come across linen baby bedding or linen towels that wrap our body after a hot bath and a refreshing shower.

Myth #3. It is very difficult to take care of linen products

We often hear the opinion that flax, because of its natural origin, requires special care, special means and conditions for drying and storage. In fact, linen is one of the strongest fabrics that is  resistant to sunlight and high temperatures. All you need to take care of it is a more or less natural powder product and a delicate washing program in your washing machine.

The only thing we recommend is to avoid drying machines that weaken the fibers. It is best to dry the laundry in a natural way, for example, by hanging it on a rope or a drying crossbar. You can read more about the care of linen products in our article.

Myth #4. Flax is very difficult to iron

In fact, linen tends to crease. This is the result of using natural fibers without synthetic additives that affect the elasticity of the fabric. For this reason, it can be noticed that polyester or lycra does not require ironing after washing or transportation in a suitcase.

At the same time, you do not need to spend many hours and borrow an old heavy iron from your grandmother. In fact, a classic steam iron is enough, and the ironing process itself is no different from other popular fabrics.

We can talk endlessly about the qualities of linen. Its compliance with environmental standards have been valued for thousands of years. Flax was first used as a material for currency, then for the decoration of temples, the production of cosmetics, clothing and, finally, textiles, which are actively appearing in our homes today. After many years of recognition, this plant and the products that are obtained from it have been shrouded in many myths. Most of them are either the result of outdated knowledge, or simply false information.
